Leading NW law firm appoints Acorn to develop competencies to protect its core values

Acorn was appointed because of its reputation and expertise in this kind of work, and because of its experience of working with partnerships

One of Cumbria’s long-established law firms has spent the past few years growing steadily through the acquisition of smaller firms through out the region. Thomson Wilson Pattinson (TWP), celebrating their 150th anniversary this year, felt a need to create a set of competencies for all fee earning staff to ensure a consistency of service delivery throughout the organisation.

Acorn was appointed because of its reputation and expertise in this kind of work, and because of its experience of working with partnerships, particularly law firms. The project will look at identifying and communicating competencies within the organisation among fee earning staff, followed by a one-to-one coaching programme to develop individual needs.

While the legal services industry is experiencing change and turmoil including fierce competition from larger firms offering cut-price bulk services, TWP aims to remain true to its traditional core values of personal service and face to face contact with clients where possible. TWP recognises the need for modernisation within the industry but not at the expense of the client.

”TWP has identified the need to change and develop their business on the inside, but their strategy is to make sure their new organisation doesn’t lose any of the traditional values on customer service. The company is also keen to ensure individual fee earners get the help they need to meet these new standards and is keen to share skills and experiences throughout the firm,” said Steve Gee, Acorn’s senior coaching consultant.

Acorn has extensive experience of working with professional practices and has developed a highly tailored combination of consulting and coaching that addresses the specific issues of the professional practice.
