Acorn Feature in Leadership Masterclass

Leadership in Times of Dramatic Change

The Centre for Enterprise Management will be running it’s fifth prestigious "Masterclass" presentation at Dundee University on the 15th of February 2006.

Set up "to enhance the capabilities of enterprising people and businesses in Scotland and internationally" the centre has invited leading figures in the Life Sciences industry to share their business knowledge and experiences to stimulate debate and share best practice. Tom Mahon, Vice-president and Site Director of gsk Montrose has been invited to speak on "Leadership in Times of Dramatic Change." His credentials for this topic are impeccable. Over the last five years the site management team at gsk Montrose have continued to meet objectives for safety, quality, efficiency and security of production despite a turbulent and morale-sapping rollercoaster ride of downsizing, near sell-off and impending closure.

In examining their response to such forced, dramatic change Tom will be highlighting the critical thinking and key principles underpinning the leadership and management of the situation they have faced. He will include the part played by Acorn’s Team Coaching in supporting the management team to deliver an engaging and unified leadership influence on the site. Also, the rationale behind Acorn’s Leadership and Change Management training inputs, developing and fostering a ‘critical mass’ of change agents among the workforce, will be covered.

In typically optimistic fashion, Tom believes the most significant conclusions to be drawn are not about how a planned approach to change management helps in adversity. He will contend that leaders should be thinking about how the same principles can be applied to driving growth and development by ensuring the successful adoption of positive changes in their businesses.
