Bibby Distribution

Leadership Development - Bibby Distribution develops a leadership team to meet future business objectives
Bibby Distribution is one of the country’s largest freight distribution businesses working throughout the UK and Europe. Bibby initiated an internal project known as ‘Project Sunrise’ which aimed to improve the efficiency and performance of all areas of business at their distribution centre in Scunthorpe.
With little space for expansion and a growing number of HR issues, the project team wanted to meet its objectives through developing and maintaining a high quality and committed workforce. Bibby selected Acorn’s leadership training experience and change-management skills to ensure the success of the project.
The Acorn Approach
Through a period of analysis and consultation Acorn and Bibby drew up three major training objectives.
- To develop confident and responsive leaders capable of promoting and modeling change. Enabling leaders to spearhead progress towards the project objectives.
- To help senior managers to create a positive, team-orientated working culture that would foster a spirit of long-term commitment to the site from all staff.
- To create a leadership team equipped with skills and knowledge that will enable it to achieve future business objectives, evolve to meet ongoing challenges and offer mutual support.
Results
The work was reviewed immediately after delivery and again a number of months later to monitor how our training had impacted in the workplace.
During the review the managers spoke about changing the way they approached their work as a result of the training and provided evidence of:
- Reduced conflict-
- Greater engagement from staff regarding the business objectives-
- Improved communication flow clarifying business focus, leadership style and key business information
- Greater ability amongst managers to support and cover each other’s roles
The review concluded with the management agreeing that the training had certainly met its objectives. Furthermore the training had helped them to build a stable platform from which they could confidently launch further change initiatives.
