Barts and The London Hospitals PFI

COMPLEX PFI TEAM DEVELOPMENT AT BARTS AND ROYAL LONDON HOSPITALS
The £1 billion scheme to redevelop Barts and the Royal London Hospitals is the largest PFI healthcare scheme in the UK. It will provide up to 1,248 beds and cover 270,000 square metres.
Key factors to the success of this project are strong partnerships and harmonious working relationships between the hospital boards and the commercial partners Skanska, Innisfree and Equion. This large team is responsible for the financing, design, construction and operation of the project for the 42 year term of the contract.
The investment partners asked Acorn to design and deliver what was called the 'outperform programme', an initiative that would ensure the diverse project team could:
- Operate efficiently and surpass its objectives
- Increase each individual's ability to see the bigger picture, spot business opportunities and make savings
- Quickly implement and communicate on-the-job learning
- The effectiveness of individual management style
- Increasing individual confidence to raise and resolve issues quickly
- Developing skills in influencing and persuasion
- Teamworking and coaching skills
- Communication skills
- A commitment to improving procedures and decision making processes
- A collaborative working approach with all team members and shared pride and passion in developing the project
- A commitment to sharing information and making the time necessary to ensure accuracy
- Better communication and teamwork
- Improved monitoring and consistency
THE ACORN APPROACH
‘Embedding new skills into daily job practice…’
Acorn designed an extensive programme that focused on encouraging team members to challenge their working approach with an emphasis on individual performance. The programme also ensured that new skills were easily embedded into work and job practice.
We adopted a team and individual coaching approach that concentrated on:
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
